Dave’s career path was a bit unorthodox. At the time of his graduation from the University of Idaho (Go Vandals!) with a Bachelors in Civil Engineering in 2009, job prospects were bleak across the country. Luckily Dave was offered an opportunity to remain at Idaho and complete a Master’s of Science while conducting research on actuated/coordinated traffic signal timing techniques with Dr. Michael Kyte. Dave completed his M.S. around Christmas of 2011 and career opportunities were still austere. Dave slept on his parent’s couch and sold kitchen knives for a direct sales company to pay the bills, while optimistically following up on the 40+ job applications he had submitted across the country. As fate would have it, T-O offered Dave his first engineering position in February 2012 as an EIT in the Aviation Group and he’s never looked back.
Although he has not had many opportunities to use his knowledge of traffic signal timing, Dave has successfully designed and constructed several runways, taxiways, aprons, airfield lighting, and various other airfield related projects. Dave has also designed a few residential and commercial subdivisions, local road projects, even some open channel culvert crossings. When Dave isn’t in the office, you will likely find him making friends with complete strangers on the golf course, in the pub, at a local volunteer event, or on the bank of a local fishing hole. Dave and his lovely wife Emily spend their free time together on home improvement projects, cooking exciting new dishes, and taking in baseball games in stadiums they’ve never visited before.
